Bo Willard Rhamy

I have definitely been slacking on my blog posts for about 7 weeks now because on November 21, 2011 Josh and I welcomed our baby boy into the world.  Going back 7 weeks....

Saturday, November 19th Josh and I went to the Zac Brown Band concert.  It was a great concert and we did a lot of walking to and from Wells Fargo Arena.  My thoughts behind going to this concert was that it would hopefully put me into labor early!  Well, I think my plan worked.

Monday morning, November 21st around 3 am I had gotten up to use the restroom (one of many times throughout the night at this point in my pregnancy) and felt a "pop".  I knew something about this was out of the norm but wasn't real concerned so I went back to bed.  After about 15 minutes I was for sure that something was going on and had thought that my water broke.  After waking Josh up by saying "I think something is going on" and he replied, "like what", and I continued to say, "I think my water broke" and then that was followed up with a very long "ooook".  So Josh looked up on the internet what happens when your water breaks, while I continued to convince him that it was really happening.  We then called the hospital and they told us to come in because they would like to check me so they could make sure.  After that I remembered hearing in class to try and stay at home as long as possible before, so then I took a shower, straightened my hair, and packed a bag (I wanted to make sure I was ready for work in case I was sent home).  Josh also took a shower and we made it to the hospital at about 5 am.  At about 515 they had confirmed that my water broke and hooked me up to my IV, the contractration monitor, and the baby's heart moniter.  We then called our family, and everyone immediately got excited.  I think my mom even teared up a bit.  We told them that there was no hurry because it would probably take all day.  The nurse then informed me that I was having contractions, but I couldn't feel a thing.

At 6 am they put me on pitocin to speed up the labor process.  When I had got to the hospital I was dialated at about 1 1/2 (what I had been for a couple weeks by then).  I had started feeling contractions a little bit by 8 am and nurse Debbie and Dr. Kopperud had came in and said that I would probably deliver at 5pm that day.  I need to mention just how lucky I was to have the best nurse in the world.  She had worked there for about 20 years and knew exactly what she was doing!  By that time I was dialated to a 3.  from about 830 - 9 I really started to feel my contractions and was in a good amount of pain.  I then had gotten the local pain medication at 9 am.  To be honest it only took the edge off in between about 2 contractions.  I had asked when I could have more and I was going to have to wait until 10!  I was in an extreme amount of pain and my contractions were about 1-2 minutes apart.  I had recalled that I thought it was pretty far into labor that your contractions were that close.  Josh was such a trooper and so supportive during everything.  I couldn't have asked for a better person to be by my side.  At about 945, after about 3 times of Nurse Debbie saying I needed to get the epidural, I asked for the epidural.  About 5 minutes later the epidural was in.  It had completely numbed my left side, but I could still feel on my side (which I was thankful for).  So then at about 10 am I was dialated to an 8 and 30 minutes later I remember Josh being on the phone with my mom helping her figure out where to park and the nurse overheard Josh say that I was an 8 and she had to correct him and said I was complete!  From 8 am to 1030 am I had gone from a 3 to a 10!  So looking back I had gone through hard labor without the epidural!!  But I was definitely grateful that I had it because I was able to relax.  Once I was complete, nurses started bringing in tools and wheeling in carts so I had thought that this was going to be "go time".  After a bit the nurse told me that they were going to have the contrations do the work for a bit before I started pushing.

At about 1130 Nurse Debbie had me start pushing during my contractions.  This was where I was glad that I could still feel my right side because I was able to feel when I had to push.  It went really well and I was making great progress.  At 1145 the Dr. came in and I continued to push.  I remember the second to last time pushing everyone told me that I was almost there and one more and he would be here.  It was weird, but they compared it to car trying to get out of a snow drift...you have to go forward then back and repeat until the last big push and the car makes it out of the snow bank.  The last time pushing I heard someone say "look down, he's here!".  At 1206pm he was born.  Bo weighed 6lbs 12 oz and was 21 inches long.  We liked the name Bo because it was simple and timeless and Willard is after my father and great grandfather.  I remember looking and seeing my baby boy for the first time.  Josh then cut the cord and they placed him into my arms.  I remember getting teary eyed at that very moment.  After that Josh was by his side every second taking lots of pictures.  I thought that I loved that baby boy while I was pregnant but I had no idea the kind of love that I would be getting into.
In labor waiting for the arrival of Bo!

Proud Daddy!

wide awake!
