Lately....

The last month I have gotten some extra time in with my kids and I cannot tell you how much I enjoy it.  Going home to both of them brings me so much joy.  They literally are my everything.  It doesn't matter what else is going on in my life, I know that no matter what they will always bring a smile to my face and make me forget all the rest that doesn't matter.  They bring so much life to our home and more smiles than I would've ever imagined before becoming a Mommy.  Josh and I are so blessed to have Bo and Vallery as our children.

A couple updates on Bo...he is definitely becoming his own little person and makes his own decisions.  He has always been a good sleeper, but the past week or so he has gotten out of bed, opens the door, and stumbles out to the living room where Vallery and I are sitting around 9pm.  Josh has been at work each time this has happened.  One time he came out and grabbed another pillow off of the couch and took that back with him and crawled back in bed.  He is so funny!  He is constantly doing everything that Josh does and always says "like Daddy".  He is starting to sit without his booster seat and use regular silverware.  His sippy cups have pretty much went out the door unless we go somewhere.  He typically listens when you tell him to do something (but then there are times when he doesn't listen at all:)).  He is quite the character.

V's 1/2 Birthday!

On January 14th we celebrated Vallery's 1/2 birthday!  I cannot believe she is 6 months old already.  She is growing entirely way too fast for my liking.

6 months was a big month for her.  She started playing in the Johnny Jump Up, walking in the walker, she can sit up completely on her own with no help, and she started eating cereal.  She eats like a champ.  It didn't take long for her to catch on, so at night we have been feeding her cereal and then a bottle.  She grabs at everything and can move things from one hand to the other.  Vallery also laughs so much.  Daddy is usually the one to make her laugh while I am usually the snuggler.  She typically falls alseep on me every night and we cuddle until I go to bed.

Her schedule is wake up between 645 and 730 (depending on if she has to go to school) and drinks 8oz, takes a morning nap for about 45 minutes to 1.5 hours, eats again at 11-12 another 8 oz, takes a 2-3 hour nap, eats at 330-4 8 oz, and at 730 she usually eats cereal, and at 815 it is bottle time after Bo goes to bed and falls asleep shortly after that before 9 o'clock.

Her 6 month check up went awesome.  She got 3 shots and the last oral roto virus. The doctor said she thought by looking at her and how strong she is she could be 8 months old.  But I don't want her growing up any faster than she already is!!

Her 6 month stats-

Weight - 17.8 lbs - 72%
Height - 25.9 in - 44%
Head - 17.25 in - 86%

She is still a very content, happy baby.  And big Brother, Bo, is loving her more each day.  He helps feed her cereal almost every night and wants to hold her.

Ringing in 2014

I couldn't have pictured a better way to ring in the new year than with the ones I love the most.  I was soo happy to spend some extra time with the kids and Josh since it had been a long weekend without seeing eachother.  We had a low-key, relaxing night at home for NYE and it was perfect.  I made Josh a steak and myself king crab (which Bo loved!) along with Risotto and Green Beans.  We stayed up to watch the ball drop and then off to bed!  I figured it would hard to stay up until Midnight, so Eleven worked us:).

2013 was a heck of year for us -
the birth of our daughter, Vallery
purchased 30 acres of land to build our dream home on
Josh and I both got promotions at work
and Bo turned 2!

It was such a crazy, busy weekend last weekend with lots of driving!  I ended up being a rehearsal crasher at Ryan and Stacy's wedding.  Josh had to work all weekend and I didn't feel like making the 3 1/2 drive by myself and not going to the wedding wasn't an option since Ryan has always been like a brother to me.  It was definitely worth it!  I got to catch up with some friends and lay around on a Saturday...I haven't done that in I don't know how long!  It was also a little rough because I had to leave the little ones with my parents and I didn't get to see Josh for 3 days! But all in all a good, fun-filled weekend!

Congrats to a beautiful couple on a beautiful wedding!  CHEERS!

BFFs reunited!

Let's rewind to 5th grade art class at Enarson Elementary School.  I will never forget the day when I found out my best friend moved.  It was one of the saddest days I can remember of my childhood.  Paula and I were inseparable when we were younger.  I mean, why wouldn't we be?  We were both dark skinned, brunette, little cuties with mountains of personality and fashion sense.  I have so many fond memories at her house growing up and her at mine.  She had a masking tape balance beem on her living room floor, ate whole wheat pancakes, and was on the swim team in Clarinda.  Her mom drove a tiny green truck with a topper and Paula decided to take me to her swim practice one day.  That is the first day that I had heard of the butterfly and it didn't refer to a pretty flying insect:).  It was in the back of that truck where she tried to teach me the butterfly.  However, I wasn't too successful...turns out I would be a Water Safety Instructor in Highschool..

We were like two peas in a pod.  Boy crazy and all.  And to top it off she had an older brother that was the same age as Nick.  The four of us were the best of friends.  I can't help but think what life would've been like had Paula never left.  Back in those days (yes, I feel so terribly old saying this...), there weren't cell phones or facebook so it was so impossible to find her!

When her and Irene (her mom) came by on Friday morning, December 27th to visit for the first time since 5th grade I was beyond excited.  I had butterflies of excitement and couldn't wait to try and catch up on almost 18 years of life in one hour (impossible by the way).  She was as beautiful as ever.  It is strange how things work out, because she is doing something that I had always dreamed of doing professionally.  She graduated from the Fashion Institue of Technology in NYC and doing everything in fashion, how awesome!!  Strangely enough that I had designed my own prom dresses and had them made and that is what she is doing...we were always fashionable:).  All I have to say is you go girl, make it happen (and you did!).

It was the strangest feeling because after about 5 minutes of conversation it was literally like we hadn't missed a beat.  She understood things without me having to say them.  When I told her about my highschool experience and the things and feelings I went through, she completely understood why and then I gave her a hard time about not staying with me to be on my team:).  But she then she quickly followed it up with, but I know you, you wouldn't have taken crap from anyone.  And highschool isn't something I talk about often on here or anything extremely personal about myself for that matter.  But it was one of the most difficult times in my life and if it weren't for meeting Jackie I don't know how I would've gotten through it.  I was ready to move and start over before it had even finished.  It forever changed my life.  In some ways it was good, it made a very independent, strong woman who can handle anything that is thrown at her.  I also don't want to hurt anyone the way I was hurt, so I try and give everyone the benefit of the doubt when meeting them.  But in other ways it was bad, like being able to trust people.  I don't let a lot of friends in because I don't want to be hurt, but also if you hurt me once there is no turning back.  We reminisced about where everyone from our class was and what they were doing.  Who has kids, who doesn't.  I can't tell you how great it was to see her.

Seeing Paula again brought back so many feelings and also gave me a sense of relief, because she gets me.  Without saying a word, she just got me....  It was almost as if for the first time in my life I felt ok about what I went through in highschool and I know that if she would have been there she would have been right by my side the entire time, because she is a true friend, and always was, and that's what friends do.

So Paula, here is to finding the time to catch up on the rest.  I love you girl!

CHRISTMAS 2013!

Christmas morning was sooo much fun this year.  We were so excited to see Bo's face to see what Santa had brought him.  And I think it is safe to say it was successful.  Everyone got up around 7 and Bo ran out to see the whole cast of Monsters University action figures and a batman car.  Vallery got an ABC game (which Bo likes too!).  Stockings were full of so many gifts and the tree was over flowing.

It was a very special Christmas hosting my whole family at our house so they could see B & V open gifts this year.  If it were up to me I would make it a yearly tradition.  Everyone was pretty good this year so Santa brought lots of good gifts.  My mom got new caphalon skillets, kindle paperwhite, and a new cell phone.  My dad got a leather bound family album (he had been asking for one for a long time!) already filled with lots of pictures (old and new), more camo gear, and more camo....  Nick got a gun sled from my parents, a couple shirts, Peyton Manning jersey, and some pictures of the kids.  Josh got some new clothes, new ariat cowboy boots, jeans, and under armour gear.  He also got some pictures of the kids for home and office.  I got a new blanket, blanket basket and workout gear from my parents; Peyton Manning jersey from my brother, and from Josh I got Hunter rain boots, electric wine opener, water bottle for the office, and the gifts of all gifts was FRONT ROW to GEORGE STRAIT!  It is George Strait's last tour and this is the first time in history I wasn't able to get tickets to something and I have never seen him in the front row (the closest I have been is 5th row, where I touched his hand in Omaha back in January of '06:)).  I am beyond excited.  This was honestly like a dream come true.  I couldn't have asked for a better gift.  Everyone knows how I am a concert junkie anyway and this absolutely took my breath away.  It has been quite the year for Josh and I and it was his way of thanking me.  And he definitely out did himself!!

On a side note, I think Uncle Nick took the cake for gifts for the kids this year.  He got them a power wheels police car! From Mom and Dad their gifts were more practical.  They each got a blabla doll (sox the fox and suzette the fox) and new shoes (boots for Bo and freshly picked moccs for V). Bo also got an alphabet puzzle, new toothbrush that lights up (score!), Despicable Me 2, and new football.  Vallery got a new sippy cup, silicone bib, wooden teethers, and taggie blanket.  Ma'ma and Papa got Vallery a radio flyer wagon that is smaller and she can push it and new pjs!  They got Bo some new bath toys and book (Pajama Time).

That afternoon we headed down to Indianola for the Crum Christmas.  It was held at my Aunt and Uncle's new home.  The kids got some extra snuggles from everyone and Bo even thought Great Grandpa was Santa!!
