Warrior Dash

Someway, somehow I talked Josh into doing another race with me.  Josh and I ran the Warrior Dash on July 14th in Earlham, IA.  After the Dam to Dam last year (12.4 miles) Josh swore off races, but with the Warrior Dash only being 3.4 (with 12 obstacles) he agreed.  Plus, I think the obstacles interested him a bit too:).  It was the first time this race had come to Iowa so I was very anxious to see what all the hype was about.  It definitely lived up to all my expectations!

I was a little nervous about all the obstacles, thinking Josh would have to help me with some, but I surprised myself!  I did very well in all the obstacles.  I was extremely proud of myself:).  I knew I would be able to do the running portion of it even though I hadn't really been running lately because of problems with my knee, but since the race is so stop and go we were able to manage it.  We finished in 38-something minutes, which wasn't bad considering we didn't really push ourselves and were toward the back of the pack at the beginning (meaning there are some slow parts of the race because you will have to wait with the large number of participants).  The best part about the whole race was that we were able to do it together and it was another thing we could check off of our list.  We are definitely interested in doing it again!

4th of July Weekend

This 4th of July was filled with many fun things!  Josh and I both took off Thursday and Friday to make it an extra short week and extra long vacation:).  We spent the day of the 4th at home for most of the day and then packed up for a mini vaca in SW Iowa.

Thursday after we got around we both got a quick workout in (funny how much you can get done with a little extra help around - thanks gma and papa!!) and then we played in a golf tournament with my brother and BAM (Bethann).  After my brother called and asked, since the other couple had backed out, I think Josh was a little hesitant to ask, thinking that I would say no.  Since I have zero experience playing golf, I was very excited to try it out.  I haven't found a sport that I don't enjoy, and Josh couldn't be a bigger golf fan, it was the perfect time!  As I explained it to Josh, "I have to learn because this is what couples do when they get older."  It was a super laid back tournament and I was playing with people I felt comfortable and surprisingly I wasn't bad.  We were playing 4 man best ball (I think that is what it's called) and they used one or two of my iron shots along with a put!

BAM might've had a few too many lime-a-ritas...whoops, lost a shoe!

After golf we had planned on going out to eat with my family for Josh's birthday.  It has always been a family tradition that we go out to eat for birthdays, so we all went to J Bruner's in Clarinda.  During dinner we gave Josh his gifts.  Bo and I got him a Swing Evaluation at GolfTec along with some Under Armour gear and my parents also got him some Under Armour gear.  We had a great dinner and some nice family time.

The next day, Friday, was a fun-filled day.  Josh and Nick went golfing (again) and that morning Bethann and I went horse back riding.  I hadn't been on a horse in a while being pregnant and all:), so it felt so good to get on a horse again.  We rode down to the river and back.  It was a little warm, but still a great time.  That afternoon I took some pictures of Bo at my parents house.  They turned out great!  With Josh's Aunt and Uncle coming to town from California I wanted to make sure they had some to take home.  So I did some quick editing before heading to Red Oak early that evening.

That evening we ate dinner at Justin and Sydney's house along with Josh's Uncle Richard and Aunt Donna Lane, cousin Carrie and her husband and two kiddos.  We had a great time catching up and introducing the boys to their relatives.  I know Richard and Donna just adore both of them and we are happy to have them in our lives as well as Bo and Owen's.

Saturday morning we all headed to town for the parade in Villisca.  Justin was in the parade in his Sheriff's car, so we all watched as he drove by!  Then Justin took us to the Fire Dept to cool down and chat a bit.  It was a hot one that day!  We relaxed that afternoon (Syd and Owen came to my parents for a bit), and then that evening we had a bbq at my parents house and then went to the street dance that night.  Josh and I definitely weren't used to those late nights, but we had a great time..

Sunday we headed back to RO to spend Rich and Donna's last day in Iowa with them.  It was definitely a bittersweet day because we were so happy to spend more time with them, but sad because we don't know when the next time will be.  Bo and Owen had a great time playing together and even took little naps together.  Rich and Donna loved watching them interact.  We went through some old pictures and got caught up on lost time.

We went back to my parents to load everything and say our goodbyes, until next time!

A night at the races...

You would think since Prairie Meadows is right outside our backdoor we would go more often, but we have only been there a handful of times since living in Pleasant Hill.  The last night in June Josh's best friend from high school, Eric, invited us to come celebrate his wife's, Megan, birthday.  Josh and I were pretty excited to have a date night and spend some time with the Nelson's.  My parents came up to watch Bo, so a big thank you to them for doing that for us.

It was nice to see Eric and Megan for a bit and their second boy is just two months younger than Bo so it had been awhile since we had seen them.  Josh and I learned how to bet on the horses and even came out a little bit on top, so we were very excited!!

Here are some photos with Gma and Papa....

1st haircut

Bo's first haircut was definitely long overdue!  Josh had been fighting me to schedule an appointment for a few months and I finally broke down and made an appointment for June 30th.  Feelings were mixed in the Rhamy household about this appointment.  Josh was extremely excited, but I, on the other hand, broke down into tears.  I'm sure some of you are reading this and wondering why the heck I would be crying over a haircut, but it's something girls probably understand more; especially mothers.  When I would tell my mommy friends that we cut Bo's hair the first question would be, "How did Bo do?" and the second question was, "How did you do?".  It made me feel really good when I was asked that question because then I got reassurance that I wasn't 'crazy' or 'over-emotional'.  I get that feeling about myself more and more often now that I am a mom, because obviously this is my first time and I tend to question my feelings about different milestones with Bo.  Not only with his haircut, but I question myself constantly...Am I 'babying' him too much?, should he have more tummy time?, Is he getting enough to eat?, or if he is getting enough to eat is he getting enough of each kind of food?  There are so many questions that come with being a mommy, but I have found that each is justified and I am not alone.

But after much suspense waiting for the moment to come for him to go to the chair I was pleasantly surprised with how grown up my little baby looked.  Seeing him in the little chair with a cape wrapped around I got a huge feeling of pride.  I thought to myself, "wow, he is really growing" (whether I like it or not).  It sounds ridiculous because he is only 7 months old, but there isn't a better way to describe it.

During the haircut, he sat so patiently and would every once in awhile look behind him to see what was going on, or check out his reflection in the mirror (which he loves to do at home).  He was such a little trooper!!  We then got a family photo together along with a certificate that has a lock of his hair with it.
