our kind of weekend

This past weekend was a very low-key one for our family.  We did, however, get some much needed family time.  Josh didn't work on Friday so he got to spend some extra time with the littles.  But starting last Thursday Vallery had a slight runny nose and by Friday she had a very dry cough.  So Josh ended up packing up the kids to take Vallery to the dr.  Everything sounded good, but they did end up giving her a steroid shot.  Our poor little girl had croupe:(.  But, it didn't seem to bother her too much, except just a little fussier than normal at times.  It did break my heart to hear her try to scream and nothing come out.  It was almost like she lost her voice.  Other than that we had a pretty good weekend.

Saturday Vallery and I had a big trip to the grocery store (exciting, I know).  And I was asleep before 10 both nights.  The life.  I am so grateful for those types of weekends though because it seems they don't come around too often.  On Sunday morning Josh woke up bright and early and worked at the Des Moines Marathon.  We were happy to have him home for a couple hours before heading back to work that night.

Miscellaneous pics of my littles.

Here are some pictures that I just had to share, because, well I'm a mom and that's what we do. :)

The 13th of October Bo had a some sort of bug that left him with a fever and vomitting.  He fell asleep everywhere that weekend.

Fun with Dad before work

he LOVES apples
On a side note, I participated in a Habitat for Humanity Panel Build for work a couple weeks ago, along with a few others from the bank.  It was way more work than I had anticipated, but it was pretty cool to say that we build all the framing for the house (exterior and interior) in a day.

V's 3 months!

Last Monday (October 14th) Vallery turned 3 months.  Holy smokes!  I can't believe next month we will be starting rice cereal!  She has gotten to be so vocal!  She does her little 'screams' when she is happy and likes to be involved.  When we are all sitting at the dinner table during supper and she is in her bouncy seat, V likes to make it known that she is still there and we pay attention to her.  The majority of the time she is a pretty relaxed baby.  She is still take 3-4 naps a day and sleeps from about 9p - 7a at night and is still being swaddled.  (On the weekends we usually don't get up until 730 or so...).  She is still sleeping in our room.  We are soon going to be moving her to her room, but with Josh being gone a lot of the nights, it is hard for me to feel safe without him there.  If it were up to me I would sleep with both kiddos, but I know Bo wouldn't sleep as good and it would be more for me than him.

Vallery also started "school" on October 7th. (tear.) She doesn't  take the best naps at school because there are two babies there who are colic.  So when she comes home she is usually zonked. It has definitely been hard taking both kiddos there the mornings that Josh works.  Taking Bo to school was always one of Josh's duties, but with the new schedule it has been shifted to mine.

Vallery eats 5 times a day still, once every 3-3.5 hours, at approx 7, 1030, 2, 530, 830.  She drank BM up until her 3 month birthday.  That morning was the last time that I pumped, so we have been making the transition this week from BM to Formula.  It is so hard to stop!  I think I get more attached than anything.  She has been doing good and hasn't been too fussy making the change.  I remember when we switched Bo over he had a hard time going back and forth from BM to Form because the formula is a lot sweeter than BM.  She is such an easy baby though, there isn't much that she gets too excited about.

We heard her laugh for the first time this month, which was the cutest thing EVER!  She is also getting so strong holding her head up.  She has also been going for rides around the house in the Baby Bjorn.  She likes to face outward so she can see everything.  Bath time is still one of her favorites.  The cold doesn't bother her a bit.  Her hair is getting much longer.  We will soon be able to put it in a pony:).  It has a little curl to it when it is wet (and that is also the only time it lays down).  Her hair still spikes up at the crown of her head.  I think soon it will start laying down because of the length.

She is still a happy, happy baby.  Bo is starting to pay a little bit more attention to her and gives her a blanky and binky.  Vallery is also starting to notice Boston a lot more.  He likes to lay where she is.  She is also starting to grab small toys and loves holding your fingers! She still loves her binky and when she doesn't have her binky you can hear her sucking hard on her fists:).

Mr. Shelton (round 2)

I cannot even explain how excited I was to get to see Blake Shelton again.  Josh and I saw him once before the summer of 2012 at the Jones County Fair.  Our seats were in the 6th row and so close to the stage (4 seats maybe?).  We went with my brother and his friend, Hawken.  We drove down to Villisca on Wednesday night to get the kids settled in with Gramma and Papa.  We left Thursday morning and made a pit stop at the St. Joe Boot Co.  When we finally got checked in to our hotel, we all got cleaned up and went down to the P&L for some grub and drinks.  Our favorite place is the PBR bar.  I'm sure you can imagine how excited I get considering there are pictures everywhere of all the Bull Riders, clips of old events on the tvs, and country music.  Ahhhh...heaven!

Jana Kramer and Easton Corbin opened up for Blake.  I had seen them both once before, but so glad we got there early enough to see them.  It was a great concert with some even better seats!  Danielle Bradberry from the voice made an appearance and Gwen Sebastian (also from the voice) is one of his back up singers.  And randomly Guy Fieri made a 30 second appearance on the stage.

We finished up the night at the PBR bar where all of us put in our fair share of dancing.  It had been a long time since Josh and I were able to do that, so we took full advantage.  We left at about 1230 and hit up a townie place with great burgers called Town Topic. All in all it was a very successful trip!

However, I will mention my almost breakdown after eating at Town Topic and not having a clue where we were.  I was totally convinced we were going to die that night.  The next day Josh told me that if he would've listened to me we would've been one foot in the grave and one on a banana peel.  Maybe I'm a little bit more of a home body than I thought? :)

Country Wedding/Bday Party

The last weekend in September my cousin Julie got married.  They had a country outdoor wedding and it was beautiful.  (Oh! if only Josh and I could get married all over again I would do so many things different!)  Julie asked me to be the photographer for her wedding and at first I was sooo nervous, but the pictures turned out better than expected!  It was a rainy morning so we were all unsure if the wedding was going to be able to be outdoors, but the day turned out beautifully.  The theme was "getting hitched with their boots on" and it was such a relaxing, laid back wedding.  Everyone looked pretty spiffy in their boots!  At the reception a family friend had brought his horse and buggy and took the kids on rides.  Bo went on at least 4 different rides and even sat on the horse.  The last ride included me, Josh, Bo, my mom, my Dad, cousin Levi, and my cousin Seth.  We had a great time at the reception, but left a little early.  It was time to get the kiddos home and I was pretty tired:).

A few of the happy couple!

The next day my cousin Dessa had us all over to her house for a birthday party for her girls, Alysia and Ashlan.  She had a ton of food and Bo loved petting her Donkey and chasing her chickens!  I cannot wait until we get out to the country so our kids can just run, run, run!

Bo also got in some "horsey" time while we were down there.  All the horses are at Uncle Nick's, so I think it is Bo's new favorite spot.
